Randall Tillery
Sketching and painting came naturally for Randall but as with many of us “life” interfered with his creative side. With a young family Randall was forced to put his artistic endeavors on hold while he raised a family. As age and responsibility balanced in Randall’s life, his passion for painting once again took center stage.
Although primarily a self-taught artist, Randall is thankful for the many fine instructor/artists who aided and encouraged him along the way; Skip Whitcomb, Kathleen Dunphy, Silvio Silvestri and Chuck Waldman, to mention a few.
Although Randall can be found painting in his studio, the majority of his work is done plein air (out of doors). “Painting from life allows me to see the colors and subtle value changes: changes that are hard to detect when painting from photos. It keeps my paintings fresh and alive. Capturing and interpreting nature’s beauty this way is a spiritual experience that I hold precious.”
Randall has received numerous awards since re-entering the art scene as an adult. In 2006 Randall was awarded Second Place (competing alongside forty nationally selected artists) in the national "Sherwood Forest Plein Air Competition." Randall has also won many regional and national awards including Best of Show, People's Choice and numerous First, Second and
